From street cafes and old-time traditional taverns to sophisticated bistros, we recommend original venues we love. As some of them are not targeted at tourists, you might struggle to find them. But it’s worth! What we aspire is, to make you see our city through our own eyes!

Traditional tavern - Live music on specific days

  • Address: 12 Eschilou str. Psiri
  • Working hours: Monday – Friday 18:00 – 24:00 Saturday – Sunday: 12:00 (noon) – 01:00 (after midnight)
  • What to expect:

    Delicious home made food that includes many vegetarian dishes.

  • Address: Sokratous & Theatrou. Hard to find basement just in the corner.
  • Working hours: 1:30am-7pm; Sunday closed
  • What to expect:

    Dive in old times.
    Try, fried fresh fish, chickpeas soup, homemade retsina wine.

Old time tavern

  • Address: 12 Agiou Dimitriou str, Psiri. Hard to find as the only thing you see is a very narrow old door. Just push it (if not opened)…to another time!
  • Working hours: Everyday 13:00 – late night. Tuesday closed
  • What to expect:

    Dive in the past, in a real scene from the past. Try the huge fried meat variety for two, tigania (fried pork meat) or scramble eggs with oriental sountzouk & pastourma.

BBQ tavern

  • Address: 86 Evrpidou str.
  • Working hours: Open every day 12:00 (noon) -01:30 after midnight. Sunday closed. August closed.
  • What to expect:

    Nothing else, than excellent marinated BBQ pork chops and french fries. You don’t even have to order. You just tell how many persons are going to eat!

  • What to expect:

    You won’t believe how many things Eleni cooks in her tiny kitchen. Very reasonable prices. Try aubergines, meat balls, tiro-kafteri (cheese salad)

  • What to expect:

    Small and quiet, warm atmosphere like home. Try, chicken-mustard sauce, crazy salad, beef liver-wine sauce, stuffed figs.

    Small and most of the time over crowdy but cozy and friendly. Try fresh kalamari (trapsalo) baked potato with tarama and eggs with oriental pastourma.

  • Working hours: April - October 11:00 in the morning until 1:00 after midnight, November - March 11:00 in the morning until 12:00 midnight.
  • What to expect:

    A roof top bar offering a magnificent view “a breath away” to the Acropolis and the city center. Enjoy your beer or a cup of coffee.

 Elegant, luxurious, sophisticated brasserie

  • Address: 9 Voukourestiou str.
  • Working hours: Everyday 08:00am – 02:00 (after midnight)
  • What to expect:

    Large, elegant, bustling art deco brasserie first opened in 1940 and just refurbished. It’s standing out for its extend wine collection and superb cuisine. Try lamb shank, slow cooked salmon or juicy grouper with a slightly spicy sauce and yuzu foam.

  • What to expect:

    Standing out for its relaxing and tasteful atmosphere. It is the favorite local of many famous Greek artists.

  • What to expect:

    Traditional old grocery scene. Gourmet Greek cuisine. Try “mastichato” chicken filet-mastic sauce, goat with rosemary or cod fish-garlic sauce. Excellent salads.

  • Address: 22 Lekka str. Hard to find as it is located inside a rather abandoned gallery (arcade).
  • Working hours: July & August Sunday closed. Monday to Saturday 12.00 - 19.00 All year round : Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: 12.00 - 19.00 Thursday, Friday, Saturday: 12.00 - 23.00
  • What to expect:

    Nice and atmospheric location. For starters try fava (broad-bean salad) and oven-baked feta cheese. Continue with trapsalo, marida (small fry), gavros (whitebait) or barbounia (red mullet).
