Psiri is the place to be if you are interested for Greek food, live Greek music or nightlife.

Psiri District

Just 10 minutes walk from your cozy Syntagma flat, there is no area as authentically Greek as Psiri. Worth visiting, if someone wants to see how Greeks spend their nights out. As it is right next to Monastiraki it can be included in a walk in Athens center.

Psyri is full of contradictions.

the neighborhood of Psiri

Until the early 1990s, Psyri had a dangerous reputation, but it has now become one of the most fashionable and trendy choices in the centre of Athens for entertainment and food.

In daytime, streets are filled with working class people and a variety of little shops like leather craftsman, material shops for shoes and clothing making, type-setters, fixtures or even antiques. But in the night, the scene changes completely! Even if, after a long day around, you have ensconced yourself in the convenience of your comfortable Athens apartment, it is worthwhile.

Inexpensive cafeterias which serve beer, wine, ouzo and oriental “narghile” until very late after midnight attract the more bohemian part of Greek youth. Expensive restaurants or reasonable tavernas with live music attract older crowds and stylish clubs, bars and cafe attract the more trendy and fashionable one.
